FAMIS, or Family Access to Medical Insurance Security Plan, is Virginia's health insurance program for children. It makes health care affordable for children of families who qualify. FAMIS covers all the medical care that growing children need to stay healthy. It also covers medical care if they get sick or hurt.

There are no monthly premiums, co-payments, deductibles or other costs for covered services to children enrolled in the FAMIS program.

What are the income limits?
Qualifying for FAMIS also depends on household income and family size:
For example, if you have 4 children and stepchildren under age 19 living in your home, plus yourself and your spouse, your family size is 6. We use monthly income to find out if you qualify. The current monthly income limit for a family of 6 is $7,169.
